Oct 10th" 1864
Dear Sir

On the 30th day of Aug 1864 One William T Stricklin, by your orders, was han-ded over to me as Sheriff of Chickasaw County on a Charge of having Killed one W. Rucker, in the Town of Okalona in Chickasaw County Mississippi on the night of the 29 day of Augt 1864—As Sheriff I held the Custody and had him in Charge of a guard until the [strikethrough] Morning [strikethrough] ^Night^ of the 30th of August 1864, When, as I am informed he was forcibly taken from said Custody by a body of Confederate Soldiers, and was by order of Maj Wheeler Commander of the Post at Okalona sent off under guard to the Confederate Mili-tary Post at Maridian under the charge of having Killed said Rucker

and was turned over to the Command-ant of the post at that place, Who as I am informed, has since turned him over to the Provost Marshal at the Post at Aberdeen Missi—

I have in my hands as the Sheriff of Chickasaw County Missi a warrant issued by T C Brown, at Okalona, a Justice of the Peace of Chickasaw County Missi Commanding me to arrest and safely keep the said Stricklin, and have him before the Said T C Brown Esqr or some other Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid at the time & place [?] designated, to [answer?] the Charge of having Killed and Murdered the Said W Rucker, Which Warrant I am unable to obey & exicute because the Said Stricklin was forcibly taken from my Gaurd by the Confederate

Military authorities and Carried beyond the limits of My County—

I have therefore to request that Your Excellency, under the Power and au-thority, by which you are invested, by virtue of your office, do make a demand on the proper Military authorities & have the Said Wm" T. Stricklin remanded to My Custody, from whence he was improperly taken, in order that I may be enabled to obey & execute the Commands of the warrant now in my hands as aforesaid
