His Excellency
Chars Clark
&c &c &c
Sir

I feel it to be my duty to report the deliquency of A E Mason conductor on the rail road from Salma to Maridian, On the 4 th [inst?] I was a passenger—The weather was intensely warm and the car crowded almost to suffocation and tht there was ^not^ in the car in which I was seated one drop of water save the little that the soldiers had in there cantines—There were number of sick and wounded soldiers in the same car The conductor not only furnished no water, but he refused to stop the train long enough to allow the men to supply them-selves tho he was in no way pressed for time I have at no time witnessed a more wanton disregard of duty than was shown by this man on the occasion referred to Among the passengers in the same car with myself I now recollect Rich N Eubank now here Robert F Osselyn & James Daniel of Jackson

I make this report to [thus?] supporting this conductor to be subject to the penalties imposed by the State laws in such cases

Very truly &c &c
