I take pleasure in informing you, that we have organinzed this association for the purpose of rendering aid and comfort to our soldiers: and last week dispatched Dr: E M Blackburn to in-form you of this fact: and to confer with you upon the subject—
At the present moment, next to having soldiers in the field: taking proper care of them, comes next in importance: and if by any means in our power that can be accomplished: it should promptly be attended to. To do this, by individ-ual assistance alone, is impossible to accomplish: altho much benefit can be drawn from that source: yet it is to our State that we must look, for the chief means of accomplishing the object of our organization_ And believing that you will do all in your power, I wish to ask your cooperation in the same. I have no knowledge of the situation of our State finances: but if you could appropriate any favor to this object: untill the meeting of our Legislature: I am confident that they would sanction any act extended for the welfare of our soldiers: for they are seriously in want of all that we can do for them—Caring for them should be the great aim of every one: to accom-plish which nothing should be spared—for if we succeed, all will come right, and if we fail, we shall be now the worse off: the failure is a calamity entirely out of the question—
Trusting that you are well and [?]
