To his Excellency Gov. John J. Pettus.

Whereas: This organization was formed prin=cipally by volunteers as minute men, and that it is composed largely of men between the ages of fourty & fifty and who are neccessarily & natural ly infirm; men too who represent & control that most important—the planting interest of our country, to whom has been intrusted to a great extent the Support & protection of the interests & families of our brave volunteers in the Confederate Service, and upon whom must devote the raising the means for the payment of our state & Confederate Taxes & whereas this orginization has not only been per=verted & changed from its Original formation but has without its own consent & wish been transferred to the Confederate Service & placed upon the Same footing with our Regular Soldiers and whereas a Judicious System of furloughing so essential to the protection of our wives & children and so important to our interest as planters has not only been revoked, but even our sick who have no other accomodation there that offers by a Tent are Refused the privilege of going to Their homes to recover Their health & strength

Be it Therefore Resolved

1st That it is with feelings of deep regret that we feel it our duty to protest against all this action of our authorties.

Page 3:

2nd. That it is the feeling of the men composing this Regt that injustice has been done them by changing the nature of the or=ganization and Transferring the same without its consent to the Confederate Authorities—

3rd. That a renewal of the Judicious System of furloughing on the 10 per cent rule latelty adopted, also for the sick, will be satifactory to us under our present cir=cumstances, and that we earnestly re=quest of Those who have the control & power to grant an immediate renewal of the System lately revoked.

4th That we pledge our united energies to the support of our authorties in Their Efforts for the protection of our homes our families & our firesides—

Signed
